House Project

The House Project stared as an artist's challenge. Within my fiber artist group, we exchanged “bags of things” and were told to 'make something that represents you' from the items. Inside my bag were many useful items like beads, buttons fabric scraps, but the blue handkerchief was most inspiring. The shape and trim on the blue handkerchief reminded me of a house. The making of one house would have fit the requirements for the challenge, but did not fully represent me.

In the past 20 years, my family and I have lived in 18 homes, 8 cities, 5 counties and 3 states. The challenge was presented to me just after we bought our first house. Looking back at all the places we had lived, I felt a need to honor them in this artist's challenge. With the use of photographs and Google maps, I was able to find images of most of the places we lived. With a mix of mediums, supplies and techniques, I started recreating these 18 houses.
